School PetPEP Visits

Our clinic conducts educational, fun and informative pet visits to schools as part of  our community service.  The School Visit scheme is run along AVA (Australian Veterinary Association)  guidelines and is recognised as a wonderful educational resource for children of all ages.  We are so blessed to have passionate, enthusiastic nurses to run this programme, and they cheerfully pack a van full of furry, barking, meowing and buzzing creatures for their school visits.

Every few months, we pack up rabbits, birds, dogs, kittens, dung beetles, lizards and other creatures and travel to local primary schools on Yorke Peninsula to teach lessons including the responsibilities of owning a pet, safety around pets, and healthcare.

Have you ever seen 30 children all screaming with delight as dung beetles run up the boys' arms?  Or a child who has been scared of dogs, finally sitting quietly patting a faithful visitor?  Nothing beats the wide-eyed amazement of children as they pass around the soft rabbits, or a lizard as it eats an insect.

Children receive as part of their visits handout sheets, colouring in sheets, "school packs" filled with goodies, and best of all, an interactive time with a variety of animals and pets.  An educational experience not to be missed.

We have also been involved in such visits to church groups, and playgroups.  Our vets have been speakers at a variety of church functions, and CWA meetings, also the police Neighbourhood Watch groups.  We hope to extend our visits to nursing homes soon.

YP Vets does not charge fees to organisations for this community service.  Please ring the Kadina Clinic on 08 8821 3350 if you wish us to arrange a visit anywhere on Yorke Peninsula or surrounding zones.
